New Studio: Halloween Fun!

After over 20 years of travelling abroad, we’re incredibly lucky to have come back home to live in gorgeous Kingston, Canada which is located in the Thousand Islands. Kingston is also known as “The Limestone City” and we have been dreaming of opening a studio space that showcases our city’s heritage. The dream finally came true! After about a year of renovations, we are delighted to offer our clients a unique space where the beauty of Kingston limestone coupled with the warmth of barn board ceilings and wide plank floors allow us to create timeless images for you that will be treasured for generations to come.

Our studio was finally ready to be “soft launched” at the end of October and what better time than All Hallows’ Eve?! With a wonderful supply of fabulous Halloween subjects, the new studio space blew our expectations out of the water - the images produced here are absolutely stunning!

One of the subtle, but powerful, “behind the scenes” elements of our new studio are the exquisite backdrops you see in these photographs. Their incredible texture contributes to the Renaissance painting feel of the images created in this space. They were hand painted by the legendary Sarah Oliphant (www.oliphantstudio.com), who, quite simply, is the best backdrop artist in the world. Her other clients include the Mount Rushmore of portrait photographers: Annie Leibovitz, Albert Watson, Mark Seliger and Danny Clinch, all photographers that have long inspired me. Their breathless images in publications such as Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone and Vogue stand out to me, amongst a plethora of amazing photographs, in part, due to Sarah’s work.  I am humbled and honoured by Sarah’s generosity which allows me the privilege of being a beneficiary of her creations.  We are thrilled to be able to offer the opportunity to our clients to be photographed with a bit of New York/Hollywood glamour which Sarah’s spectacular backdrops uniquely provide.

An impressive assortment of colourful neighbourhood characters kindly agreed to help us create some magic in our new studio. Flamingos, Ringmasters, Wolf Woman and even Frankenberry with a brave Harry Potter were among those who made an appearance!

Finally, the “Ikea Monkey” graced us with a visit (if you haven’t heard of the “Ikea Monkey”, please check it out online - the monkey below bears an uncanny resemblance to the original!). The “Ikea Monkey’s” shenanigans, captured in sequence, can only be titled “Evolution” (or is it “Devolution”)!

We’d very much like to thank all the (far too!) willing subjects for their inspirational contributions.  Their enthusiasm (and lack of inhibitions!) created a magical Halloween for us and one that was far in excess of what we had hoped for, making our studio “soft launch” a night to remember!
